Lot Essay

With Untitled Anatomy, Bare, Ravenscroft challenges the established ideology of what a painting should look like. At a first glance the work appears to be a painting of a painting. The artist prompts us to ask ourselves, why do we view a painting the way we do and; why are we conformed by established rules in the way we view art. This painting is not simply a representation of an object that has been painted, but it is the painting as a whole.
