Lot Essay

Franz Wolfgang Rohrich specialised in creating paintings in the manner of Cranach and Dürer, without copying a direct prototype. Various versions of this double portrait in the manner of Lucas Cranach I are known, one of them in the Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 1185). Another version was sold at Sotheby's, Paris, 22 September 2010, lot 44 (€36,750).
