THE FIRST TOUR BY THE GENTLEMEN OF PHILADELPHIA TO GREAT BRITAIN, captained by R.S. Newhall. This tour book has an unusual typographical layout, and the binding has no lettering apart from the ‘P’ for Philadelphians. Sydney Young, who gave this copy to J.P. Morris, played for the Philadelphians and the United States against Canada. Taylor p.48; Goldman p.194; Padwick 5737.

SCORECARD -- Gentlemen of Gloucestershire v Gentlemen of Philadelphia, Gloucester County Ground, July 15-17 1889, 185 x 122mm, framed and glazed. W.G. and E.M. Grace both played for their county; although the highest scorer was H.H. Francis with 94 not out, W.G. made 46 and 39 not out, and took 6 wickets in each innings.
