[WANOSTROCHT, N.]. Felix on the Bat. London: Baily Brothers, 1850. 4° (206 x 178mm). viii,58pp. + 2pp. advertisements. Hand-coloured lithographic frontispiece, 6 hand-coloured and 3 uncoloured plates after printed by M. and N. Hanhart, illustrations. [WANOSTROCHT, N.]. Felix on the Bat. London: Baily Brothers, 1855. 4° (236 x 165mm). x,74pp. Hand-coloured lithographic frontispiece and 6 hand-coloured plates, illustrations. (Some heavy browning and spotting to plates and text, some plates and leaves rehinged.) Original green cloth gilt (spine chipped, endpapers renewed). Third edition.
ALL THREE EDITIONS of this illustrated classic. The plates differ in each edition. Although loosely based on the five lithographs by G.F. Watts published in 1837, the six plates of batting strokes were probably drawn by Felix as were the comic vignettes; the two uncoloured plates which demonstrate batting stances may be the work of either Felix or John Gilbert (see G. Brodribb, Felix on the Bat, 1962, pp. 140-143). Allen 50; Padwick 397.
