Engraved frontispiece with title within architectural border containing arms and portrait of the author, folding engraved portrait of Philip IV of Spain, 6 folding engraved plates by Pedro Perete. (Small repaired clean tear to engraved title, occasional light staining and spotting.) 20th-century red morocco with gilt arms of the Duque de Almazan within gilt borders, gilt spine, turn-ins and edges (light fading). Mateos, King Philip IV’s crossbowman, recounts his lifetime experience as hunter ('Yo escribo solamente lo que he hecho, lo que he visto y lo que he visto hacer'). Divided into 71 chapters, his work describes the methods of hunting the boar (including pigsticking), the buck and wolves.
