CORONELLI, Vincenzo (1650-1718). Atlante Veneto: Isolario descrittione geografico-historia. Venice: 1696-97.

2 parts in 2 volumes (485 x 360mm). Each volume with engraved titles of Gli Argonauti, half-titles, titles of Isolario printed in red and black, engraved architectural frontispieces, 15 portraits including two of Coronelli, 339 engraved views, charts, maps and costume plates of which 70 double-page, some mounted on guards, 27 full-page and 4 half-page gores, all engraved. (Occasional light staining, soiling and browning, a few marginal repairs rarely touching images or text, view of Venice lightly cropped at margins.) 18th-century half calf over mottled boards, blue edges and gilt spines (vol. I with corners and head and tail of spine restored and some worming to spine, vol. II with some waterstaining, extremities rubbed and corners bumped). Provenance: Costantino Cumano (small stamps on frontispieces, titles and margins of few other leaves, ownership inscriptions dated 1850) – shelfmark in red ink on front cover of vol. II.

A FINE EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED COPY, INCLUDING 339 ENGRAVED PLATES, TWENTY-SEVEN FULL-PAGE GORES AND FOUR HALF-PAGE GORES. The second part of the Atlante Veneto with the first volume covering the Mediterranean, Italy and the Adriatic; the second, Britain and Europe, Africa, Japan and Asia, and the West Indies. This work is considered one of Coronelli's most ambitious undertakings, the title found in the first part proclaiming the author's intention to be nothing short of 'la discrittione geografica, storica, sacra, profana, e politica, degl'imperii, regni, provincie, e stati dell'universo’. Phillips I, 521; Shirley BL, T.COR-13a (the present copy with many more plates and only missing 11 of the ones called for in the BL copy).
