4 volumes, duodecimo (123 x 76 mm). With the half-titles. Engraved frontispiece and 23 plates by Elluin after Borel, some of which printed on india and mounted, woodcut title-devices and headpieces. (Final plate in vol. IV cut fractionally short, occasional insignificant browning.) Contemporary mottled calf, covers with gilt triple fillet border, gilt spines, red and tan morocco labels gilt, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (extremities faintly rubbed).
THE FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION. A FINE COPY OF THE CAZIN EDITION OF THIS MAJOR LIBERTINE NOVEL AND NERCIAT'S FIRST BOOK, with excellent engravings by Elluin after Borel: the partnership responsible for some of the finest illustrated erotic editions of the 18th century.
