Octavo (185 x 120 mm). Printed on laid paper. Two engraved plates sometimes attributed to Rops, extra-illustrated with 8 original pen-and-ink and watercolour drawings in the margins. Uncut in contemporary olive green crushed half morocco, original wrappers printed in black and red bound-in, flat spine tooled up the spine with roses in gilt and red and a satyr in gilt, morocco label titled in gilt, top edge gilt (spine and edges lightly faded).
FIRST EDITION. A UNIQUE COPY ILLUMINATED WITH ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY STA, a pioneer of francophone bande dessinée and a very apt choice for this parody of Goncourt and Zola. Dutel 302; Pia Enfer, 460. For Sta see also lot 214.
