Octavo (185 x 115mm). Text printed within red ruled borders. Engraved plate by Félicien Rops; extra-illustrated with 30 pencil, pen-and-ink and water-colour drawings. (Some scattered spotting.) Early 20th-century full red leather, original wrappers printed in red bound-in, spine titled directly in gilt, top edge gilt, deckle fore-edges (wrappers lightly soiled). Provenance: neat inscription in purple ink on front blank.
FIRST EDITION. A UNIQUE COPY ILLUMINATED WITH THIRTY ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY STA, the caricaturist and early bande dessinée artist. Huysmans admired Hannon’s early verse, praising him in A Rebours, and contributing a preface to the Belgian poet’s Rimes de joie (1879). Not in the Royal Library of Belgium; WorldCat locates only one copy: the Ashbee copy in the British Library; Pia Enfer, 929. For Sta see also lot 214.
