A MIDNIGHT-BLUE GAUZE LADY'S SURCOAT, LONGGUA
CIRCA 1870
The front-opening coat finely embroidered in satin stitch and couched gold threads depicting eight dragon roundels, four front-facing five-clawed dragons and four side-facing dragons, each below a shou roundel. All reserved on a ground of scattered flower sprays above foaming lishui waves with scattered Buddhist Emblems. The robe is bordered by a dragon collar and embroidered sleevebands decorated with flowers and precious objects.
Provenance
Acquired by the current owner in Canada from an estate in the 1980s.
