Lot Essay

Williams was a partner in the Agnew's firm from 1905 to 1932. A close friend of Gerald Agnew, Thomas's great-grandson, he was godfather to his son Geoffrey. When the latter was awarded his house colours at school, his godfather rewarded him with a five pound note, which it rapidly emerged he had just borrowed from Gerald.
