Lot Essay

Brockhampton is one of the original drawings which Lowry executed in 1930 for A Cotswold Book by Harold Temperley, as well as Near Belas Knap (lot 153). Lowry decided to keep many of the originals after publication and he gifted Brockhampton to A.E. (Ted) Frape, the curator of Salford City Art Gallery. There, it was loaned to the renowned Salford Lowry collection and was inherited by Frape’s widow upon his death.
