Each with a rectangular padded back and seat covered in pale yellow cotton damask, the arms with downcurved blind fret-carved supports on square chamfered fret-carved legs with pierced scrolled brackets, the seat rails re-supported, previously with castors, repairs to brackets

Lot Essay

The same fret pattern and rosette arm terminal features on a pair of armchairs sold anonymously Christie's, New York, 16 April 1994, lot 214 ($54,050 including premium). Another pair with the same fret pattern was sold from the collection of the late Sir Charles Clore, Christie's, London, 20 November 1986, lot 183 (£15,000 including premium).
