Syrup of 'Epithymo' refers to the herb Thyme Dodder, or Cusuta epithymum, used for a variety of medicinal purposes. For a similar wet drug-jar dated 1658 see Louis L. Lipski and Michael Archer, Dated English Delftware, London, 1984, p. 368, no. 1597.
