Lot Essay

For a similarly decorated drug-jar dated 1764 and with the monogram W.M. see Louis L. Lipski and Michael Archer, Dated English Delftware, London, 1984, p. 390, no. 1673.

'S: Pector' may refer to an ointment used for the treatment of disorders of the chest; 'E:E, B:Laur' refers to bay-laurel berries or leaves and 'Tamarind' leaves were used for a variety of medical purposes.
