Lot Essay

A few, almost identical, versions by Hendrick van Steenwijck I of the present composition exist, such as the one in the Museum Catherijneconvent, Utrecht (inv. nr. 1987, also on panel and with identical measurements). The figures in the present picture are painted by Abel Grimmer.
