HUANG DING (1660-1730)
1077-1078 FORMERLY IN THE COLLECTION OF WU YUNZHAI Wu Yunzhai (1886-1962) was a noted financier and collector. He attended the Nanyang Public School in Shanghai with Qian Xinzhi and Li Shutong (Hongyi), and later studied business at Waseda University in Japan. While working at the Jincheng Bank in Shanghai Wu met Li Zulai, a close friend of Zhang Daqian, who introduced him to various artists. Highlights of Wu's collection of fine Chinese paintings included works by Hua Yan and Huang Ding. Two modern works by Zhang Daqian and Qi Baishi from the same collection will be offered in our Fine Chinese Modern Paintings sale on 25 November 2014, Lots 1739-1740.
