2° (321 x 239 mm). Half-title, frontispiece with photographic portrait, title-page vignette, photographic portrait of Gershwin’s hands, 18 color lithographic illustrations by Constantin Alajalov. Blue morocco boards gilt-stamped on front cover and spine, top edges gilt; original slipcase (hinges and joints reinforced with some light wear, slipcase broken). Provenance: Kenneth MacKenna (1889-1962), American actor and film director (bookplate on pastedown).

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 122 of 300 copies, signed by Gershwin and Alajalov on colophon ("George Gershwin" and "Alajalov"). Includes the often-missing 8-page pamphlet, containing the song "Mischa, Yascha, Toscha, Sascha," loosely inserted in a pocket at back endpaper. A good copy of a book that rarely survives in fresh condition.
