Lot Essay

Although Barye's catalogues offered no less than twelve supposedly different rabbit titles, essentially there exist just the two models, Lapin, oreilles couchées and Lapin, oreilles dressées, each given a separate listing according to the existence (or not) and nature of its base. Modelled in around 1825, the two types and their numerous variants were offered from 1845 and proved enormously popular.
