UNMARKED, PROBABLY EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Each on spreading circular base, chased with a calyx of stiff leaves, rising to a panelled baluster stem chased with vertical leaves, the sockets chased with acanthus and supporting a circular drip-pan with scalloped rim, each engraved under base with the Royal monogram FA for Frederick Augustus III of Saxony (1550-1827), numbered underneath '35'; ‘63’; ‘67’ and ‘76’ and engraved with a scratch-weight, the inside of bases gilded

Lot Essay

These candlesticks are after a set of 124 described as "glatt faconniert Spielleuchter" in the 1880 inventory of the Saxon Royal collection recorded by Friedrich August von O'Byrn, Die Hof-Silberkammer und die Hof-Kellerei zu Dresden, 1880, p. 14. Twelve from the original service were sold Christie's New York, 18 October 1994, lot 48.
