PETIT ECRAN DE TABLE EN JADE CELADON PALE SCULPTE ET INCRUSTATIONS
CHINE, DYNASTIE QING, EPOQUE QIANLONG (1736-1795)
The front of the screen is finely carved in high relief to depict a horse leaping above crashing waves, below clouds highlighted in gilt. The horse carries a yin yang symbol on its back, with the saddle-cloth detailed with bats. The reverse is decorated with a large bell to the centre, surrounded by colourful floral sprays inlaid in various hardstones. The screen is set within a thin gilt-bronze frame. The stone is of a pale even tone. The hardstone embellishments to both sides include coral, lapis lazuli, rose quartz, aventurine and jadeite.
