The archaistic vessel is cast with taotie masks, confronted phoenix and kui dragons and mythical animal heads reserved on a leiwen ground. The shoulder is flanked by two tapir masks holding the handle.

This present vessel imitates the stout oval-bodied you, a wine vessel for religious rituals of the late Shang dynasty. It is a fine example of the revival of archaic bronze shapes and decoration which were popular during the Ming dynasty.
