Lot Essay

This caster, with its large cypher, may well have served as the model for 20th century copies, which share the same engraving, weights, marks, and initials. These casters are in the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Bayou Bend Collection, Houston. For a discussion of the group see: Phillip M. Johnston, Catalogue of American Silver: The Cleveland Museum of Art, 1994, p. 68.
