The case with glazed sides and painted floral ornament to the dial and plate; the four-train movement with chain fusee for time and three fixed barrels for the strike, the bottom plate with engraved countwheel and signed 'Abraham Scheirlin', three engraved hammers striking three bells to hinged base plate

Lot Essay

Abraham Scheirlin (b. circa 1616 - d. 1694). Scheirlin was the first Augsburg specialist making clock springs and he received special permission to do so on account of his age. (K. Maurice and O. Mayr (editors) The Clockwork Universe, German Clocks and Automata 1550-1650, Munich, 1980, p. 69.)
