A GERMAN CARVED IVORY TANKARD WITH SILVER-GILT MOUNTS IN THE 17TH CENTURY MANNER
CIRCA 1880
The cylindrical body carved in high relief with a frieze of bacchanals, two of them supporting Bacchus himself, the others with goat and donkey beside a fruiting vine, the mounts chased with foliate scrollwork and flowers, small panels of fruit and projecting female busts, capped by a seated Cupid finial, the scroll handle incorporating a naked female figure, silver-gilt interior
