A gentleman's half-length fur coat of chocolate mink with claret satin lining; accompanied by a black and white still (9½x7in.) of Richard Burton wearing an identical coat with Elizabeth Taylor on their return to London from Paris for the London premiere of Burton's latest film Where Eagles Dare, 22nd January, 1969, together with a Daily Mirror newspaper, 12th October, 1970 featuring a photograph of Richard Burton wearing an identical coat, and a facsimile press clipping dated 23rd January, 1969, referring to the coat as a gift from Taylor

Lot Essay

According to the original vendor this coat was made by furrier Chombert in Paris as a gift from Elizabeth Taylor to Richard Burton for his 43rd birthday in 1968. Numerous photographs exist of Burton wearing an identical coat, including during his time spent in New York City while performing in Equus (1976), on travels through 1976 and 1977 with then wife Suzy Hunt as well as on arrival to Legends nightclub, London, 27th February, 1982 for Elizabeth Taylor's 50th birthday.
