Lot Essay

Ardeshir Mohassess, the most influential cartoonist and graphic artist of Iran's Modern art history, is celebrated for his penetrating and socially infused works that shed light on his commitment to freedom and social justice as well as his rejection of imposed conventions. In the course of his career, Mohassess produced a large number of politically inspired drawings that made him win several prizes and gain recognition amongst the intellectual circles of pre-revolutionary Iran, before moving to the United States in 1976.
