General Wei Shiqi (1906-1978), who was also known as Deyang, was a graduate of the prestigious Whampoa Academy and attained the rank of Major General. His wife Mrs. Tang Yexian (1921-2012) graduated from Hunan Xiangya Nursing School and became a head nurse at the National Taiwan University Hospital. After 1960 on separate occasions, she helped to treat artists Pu Ru and Yu Youren for eye diseases. Both artists recovered quickly and in gratitude to Nurse Tan, gave these art works to the couple as gifts.
