FROM THE COLLECTION OF ZHA FUXI (1895-1976)
Zha Fuxi, also known as Zhenhu and Yiping, was born in Hunan province. He is principally remembered as a renowned guqin player, music theorist, and educator. He made great contributions in the areas of guqin research, education, composition, and performance. Zha Fuxi is the author of Overview of Existing Qin Music Scores and was also the chief editor of the monumental Collection of Qin Music. In the early 1930s, he founded the Jin Yu Qin Society in Shanghai, which influenced the field for more than half a century. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, he served as the vice president of the Chinese Musicians Association and dean of the department of National Instrumental Music in the Central Conservatory of Music, among other posts. He was also the founder of the Beijing Guqin Research Institute, which conducts academic research and musical performances.
