Of square section, the top carved with cloud scroll, and one side carved with a signature 'Tong Danian', the seal face possibly reads 'treasure by Renwu', the stone of russet brown color with dark brown and pale striations

Lot Essay

Tong Danian, (1873-1955), was a seal carver based in Shanghai. Known in particular for his seal script, he was a member of the Xiling Seal Society, one of China's most important stone seal engraving associations.
