A RARE MING-STYLE DOUCAI 'LOTUS' JAR
18TH CENTURY
The sides are decorated in a rich doucai palette with six ribbon-tied lotus sprays separated by ruyi-cloud spandrels, all between a band of petal lappets at the foot and a band of ruyi-heads on the shoulder. An apocryphal Chenghua mark is on the base.

Lot Essay

The decoration and shape of this well-painted jar are based on Chenghua period (1465-1487) prototypes, such as the jar with cover in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, illustrated in Enamelled Ware of the Ming Dynasty, Book I, Hong Kong, 1966, pl. 2.
