A RARE TWELVE-PANEL CARVED LACQUER SCREEN
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The screen is carved through a brown ground and picked out in a full range of colors. One side depicts a palace scene with arriving guests bringing gifts to a dignitary at center, amidst musicians, attendants, and military figures, all within a border of antiques, flowers and birds. The reverse depicts figures in a water garden with various pavilions and bridges, all within a border of landscape vignettes and flowers.
Each panel 109 ¾ x 18 ¾ x ¾ in. (278.8 x 47.6 x 1.9 cm.)
