COROMANDEL COAST, SOUTH INDIA, 19TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with flat top, the deeply carved floral decoration consisting of scrollworks bearing oversized flowerheads flanking a central palmette in the form of a lotus bud, the lid opening to reveal a single compartment and an inner ivory inlaid decoration of a crowned ruler within a central roundel bordered with palmettes to its reverse, with lock and key
