Lot Essay

The author says in the colophon that he completed the work surrounded by his friends and family, and was rather ill at ease in that environment: thus his pen changes and style of writing varies from one session to the next.

From the marginal notes and the style of the opening and end of the book, it seems that this is likely to be the author's first draft of the work at the age of sixty.
