AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOOD SARCOPHAGUS FRAGMENT
THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD, 21ST DYNASTY, CIRCA 1070-945 B.C.
Depicting Hathor in the form of a speckled cow with saddle cloth, crowned with a sun disc and two ostrich feathers, a red fillet around her neck, Wadjet hovering above as a winged cobra with sun disc, the bovine emerging from the Theban mountain, with the tomb of the deceased topped with a pyramidion, with accompanying hieroglyphic text describing the blessed deceased before various deities, a frieze of alternating uraei and maat-feathers above, the back with remains of painted decoration with standing mummified figure
