this unique piece appears to have been sent to South Africa when originally made in 1931, which suggests it was a sample for a retailer there, and so would have been produced under Clarice Cliff's direct supervision.
The design combines some typical Applique elements well, a stylised tree, sharp orange sky and an exotic building. Unusually for Applique it uses Gibraltar colours for the flowers alongside the more standard red and orange
