A FINE GOLD-MOUNTED PRESENTATION SWORD
BY THE GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS COMPANY, LONDON, LONDON ASSAY MARKS FOR 1900
With 31 ¾ in. (80.6 cm.) blade bearing the presentation inscription 'PRESENTED TO MAJOR GENERAL ROBERT S.S. BADEN-POWELL BY OVER TWO THOUSAND RESIDENTS IN DUNEDIN AND DISTRICTS, NEW ZEALAND', ivory grip, 15ct gold mounts including guard with the enamelled coat of arms of Baden-Powell on the outer side and an enamelled badge involving symbolic figures including a Maori and bearing the legend 'Victoria D.G. Britanniarium Regina F.D. Islands of New Zealand' on the inner side, and bullion sword knot, in original scabbard with 15ct gold mounts cast and chased with foliage and trophies, one with applied gold moa (extinct flightless bird native to New Zealand), and bearing applied enamelled badges depicting the British Royal arms, the Union Flag and the coat of arms of Dunedin
