Lot Essay

With Tudor punched Garantie dated 16 December 2001, product literature, period presentation box, outer packaging and Tudor Anthology by Alberto Isnardi.

In 1995, Tudor chronographs change their look. The cases, still "by Rolex", are redesigned into a thinner version with smoother lines. The bezel insert is now made of aluminium, the plexiglass is replaced by a sapphire crystal. The models are fitted with the improved version of the Valjoux 7750 automatic movement. Entirely refreshed, its finishing is called "special Tudor", the rotor now engraved and gilded.

Following the firm's 50th anniversary in 1996, all references to Rolex gradually disappear. The model name is changed from "Oysterdate" to "Prince Date", tritium is progressively replaced by luminova. The triplock crown is personalized with the Tudor shield, the case back omits any references to Rolex. The Oyster bracelet used by Tudor becomes reference 78400.

Made circa 2001, the present Prince Date is from the later series and is prominently described and illustrated in Alberto Isnardi' s Tudor Anthology pp. 190-193.
