Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with yellow gold bracelet in 1958 and its subsequent sale on 10 August 1960.

Preserved in very good original overall condition, this watch has never been offered at auction before and is believed to be one of around five examples of this reference with ruby-set numerals to appear in public to date.

Reference 3409 was introduced to the market in 1958, the year of manufacture of the present watch. Certainly amongst Patek Philippe's most exclusive and typical 1960s models, it recalls the work of the celebrated Gilbert Albert. Reference 3409 stands out by its unusual design, smoothly integrating the case within the tapered link bracelet.
The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Museum - Patek Philippe Watches, Volume II, p. 223.
