Lot Essay
The present dial was purchased by the owner of the previous lot in this auction, the reference 2499/100 in this auction. The meticulous private collector wished to have a spare dial in case that the original one of his 2499/100 would need to be replaced. It has never been used and is in new old stock condition.
The back of the dial is stamped 93-255-HJ, 93 being Patek Philippe's client number at Stern, 255 the order number and HJ for "Heures Jaune" or gold hour markers. Stern Frères' symbol, the five-sided star, is stamped between the numbers 93 and 255.
Founded in Geneva in 1898 by Henry Stern, Fabrique de Cadrans Stern Frères and Patek Philippe have always been closely connected. Suppliers of highest quality dials to the manufacture for many years, Patek Philippe was taken over by Charles and Jean Stern in 1932. Charles' son Henri opened the firms' new headquarters in New York in 1935, the distinguished Henri Stern Watch Agency, before returning to the headquarters in Geneva in 1958.
