Lot Essay

A pupil of Aert Schouman (1710-1792), Heenck almost exclusively made drawings of birds. Heenck must have made quite a number of these drawings in his short career; in the 1793 sale of the estate of van Maarseveen no fewer than 64 drawings by the artist were offered. In addition to his activities as an amateur artist, Heenck also acted as an art broker (see A.J. van der Aa, Biographisch Woordenboek der Nederlanden, Haarlem, 1867, VIII, p. 370).
