Lot Essay

Close to a drawing by de Vos, dated 1586, in the Bibliothèque nationale, Paris, which represents Alexander's arrival at Jerusalem, greeted by high priests (F. Lugt, Bibliothèque nationale. Cabinet des Estampes. Inventaire général des dessins des écoles du Nord, Paris, 1936, no. 191). The latter drawing was engraved (Hollstein 1314) as part of a series on the Story of Alexander which included five other plates, all after designs by Jan Snellinck (1548-1638).
