According to the inscription on the verso, this drawing shows a street near the Porta Paolo, called Ostiense, by the Aurelian wall.
A drawing by Herman van Swanevelt (1603/4-1655) showing the same composition, with the house on the hill on the right not yet in ruins, is in the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris (inv. MAS 2045; A.C. Steland, Herman van Swanevelt, I-II, Petersberg, 2010, no. Z 2.83, fig. Z 71).
