Further details
So memorable is this 1965 image of Martin Luther King Jr that it has been recently used as the key promotional image for the 2014 film Selma. Somerstein was a relative novice when he headed south to chronicle the civil rights movement for his student newspaper in 1965, yet the impact of this image is testament to the power of photo-journalism to capture the most charged moments in our history and keep them vivid in our mind’s eye long after the moment has passed.
