ROWLANDSON, Thomas (1757-1827). Outlines of Figures, Landscape and Cattle etch’d by T. Rowlandson for the Use of Learners. London: S.W. Fores, 1790-1792.
4 original parts, 2º (468 x 285mm). 16 hand-coloured etched plates by Rowlandson. (Some soiling and browning of margins.) Original blue wrappers with large letterpress title labels laid down on covers, these inscribed in ink with part numbers, the first part with price inscribed at head: ‘5s – 10/- colored’ (rebacked); modern blue buckram box and matching chemise (box slightly damaged). Provenance: Reuben Jay Flick (bookplate; purchased at his sale, New York, 1945).
A FINE HAND-COLOURED SET, issued without text, the plates containing courtship scenes and entertaining vignettes of rural life in a style that Henry Alken was to successfully imitate.
