CIRCA 1755-60, THE MOUNTS PROBABLY CONTEMPORARY, WITH LATER FRENCH IMPORT MARKS
Painted in the manner of Watteau with gallants and companions in parkland within cartouches edged with colourful rocailles and reserved against a green scale-ground, the interior of the box with sprays of deutsche Blumen and the cover stippled with a classical scene of a shepherdess and putto companion by a waterfall, the mounts chased with scrollwork (box with two hairline cracks and wear to rim on underside, cover with scratching to glaze and small area of flaking to interior scene)
