Lot Essay

For a rectangular snuff-box attributed to Frankenthal and painted with figures in a similar style to those on the present lot see Barbara Beaucamp-Markowsky, Boîtes en porcelaine des manufactures européennes au 18e siècle, Fribourg, 1985, p. 367, no. 300. Also see p. 330, no. 270 for a Berlin box painted on the inside of the cover with a scene of an almost identical composition but including mythological figures rather than Turkish ones, indicating that the scene was probably from the same as yet unidentified print source.
