Lot Essay
This tapestry forms part of a group of 15 known tapestries to this design, all woven during the Regency of Grandduke Ferdinando II de' Medici (d. 1670), son of Cosimo II (d. 1621). His mother Maria Maddalena of Austria and his paternal grand-mother Christina of Lorraine were appointed joint regents during his minority until 1629, since he ascended the throne at 11, the period in which this tapestry was woven.
