A YELLOW JADE 'MYTHICAL ANIMAL' PENDANT
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The stone is carved in the round depicting a recument animal with thick eyebrows, rounded eyes and a broad snout, its back with two gentle humps extending to a bifurcated tail, pierced in between for suspension. The stone is of a greenish-yellow tone with areas of russet concentrated on the underside and an opaque white patch on the spine.
