Lot Essay

The actual pieces of this handsome chess set, complete with fitted mahogany box, are unmarked, which is a rarity for Jaques. Although, there are a few exceptions, probably when the sets where left blank deliberately so the retailers could apply their own trade mark, such as Leuchars or Pearce. However, in this instance the box is marked ‘Jaques London’.
